Congratulations …. you’ve moved, in my humble opinion, to one of the most exciting places to live in the Netherlands. As a young city, Almere is continuously evolving and changing to meet the needs of the people that live here and that now includes you.
So, now that you’re here, let’s look at some of the IMPORTANT stuff you’ll want to know.
Police Emergency Number: 112
Police Non-Emergency Number: 0900-8844
Hospital Emergency Number: 0900 203 0 203
City of Almere service line: 14 036
Your health services are provided by Zorg Groep Almere and on their website you can find the information regarding the closest health center and pharmacy to you.
That’s the most important stuff out of the way, let’s move on to some lesser important things, such as trash…..
Don’t know when you’re trash is picked up…..no problem, we’ve sorted it all out for you:
The old green trash bin will be picked up every twee weeks according to this schedule. In Almere plastic is a REQUIRED recycled material and often people have also a Paper recycling bin. Here you can check which days they will be picked up. Got trash and you can’t fit it anymore into your bin… we all have this from time to time, especially right after a move. No worries, you can set up a home pick up via the telephone ( 14 036 ) or via Almere’s online digital service booth. If you want to take it yourself, the addresses for the 3 recycling perrons in Almere can be found here.
Now the house is cleaned up and it’s time for shopping! Almere has 3 major areas ( Buiten, Haven & Stad ) which have markets throughout the week. The locations and times are:
- Almere Stad, Stadhuisplein en Promenade: woensdag en zaterdag van 09.00 – 16.00 uur
- Almere Almere Haven, de Markt en de Brink: vrijdag van 09.00 – 14.00 uur
- Almere Buiten, Globeplein en het Rio de Janeiroplein: donderdag van 09.00 – 16.00 uur
