Active Volunteers Needed

International Almere is looking for active volunteers

 

About us

The association International Almere is a community of about 1600 internationals and internationally minded people in Almere. We are steadily growing and enjoy quite a lot of publicity in and around Almere. We are more and more recognized in Almere. We have an open communication with the municipality of Almere (Gemeente) and InAmsterdam (the expat centre for Amsterdam and surroundings, of which Almere is part). This gives us the opportunity to serve the interest of internationals in Almere and help to improve services to them given by these important stakeholders. We facilitate various online platforms where help is given and provided within the community, news is published in English and relevant information is shared. Besides that, we organize meetings of social clubs (such as Dutch Language Café, Quiz Night, Book Club, BuitenBorrel, First Friday Night Drinks) and annual events (such as Easter Egg Hunt, Housing Event and Christmas celebration).

This is all managed by the board members and with the support and kindness of our active volunteers. There are currently no paid jobs within the team and costs are covered by paid advertisements and the help of our valued sponsors (Expat Mortgages, Beacon Financial Education, Inter Immo, Courtesie, World Trade Center).

We have recently taken occupancy of our own office at the lovely World Trade Centre next to Almere Central Train station. Our standard office days are Monday and Wednesday, but timing is flexible and depending on workload.

New active volunteers needed

We are currently looking for a new boardmember and new active volunteers to help to deliver all the services to our community. Why would you invest time as a volunteer for International Almere? Maybe because you want to meet other international minded people in Almere. Or you want to help other internationals to feel at home in Almere. Or because you want to get new working experience in the Netherlands (we did see several times that it helps getting a job in the Netherlands when you have this kind of volunteer work mentioned on your CV. Also, we would be happy to write a testimonial for you when you apply for a job). We offer you a nice working space in our office at WTC and lots of opportunities to grow and develop yourself in this rewarding voluntary work.

Are you not sure for how long you can commit yourself to International Almere? That is truly not a problem. We do understand you are building your life in Almere and priorities can change. We are looking for hands-on mentality and drive, more than for long-term stability. So, even if you expect to have just half a year to dive into this opportunity, we’d be grateful for your help.

We are specifically looking for volunteers to fill in the following positions:

Secretary (board position)

According to our statutes there must be a secretary in the board. This position is currently filled ad interim, so we are looking for a new secretary. Does the following describe you? You are organized, experienced with MS Word and Excell, have a good level of English and love to communicate and structure workflow. Then you may be our new secretary. Being part of the board means you take decisions about the policy of the association together with the other board members. This decision-making power is delegated by the members, so as stated in our statutes it’s the members of the association who decide who gets a board position. That is why we will have a formal extra general meeting to vote for the new secretary. We aim to have this meeting before Christmas. So, if you are interested to become our new secretary then please let us know latest Wednesday 12thof December. We will then follow up quickly.

Events coordinator

Does this describe you? You love to organize things, have a hands-on mentality and are a good team player. Then you may be our new events coordinator. We have several exiting evens on our wish list and need volunteers to help us to make them happen.

Social media expert

We are urgently looking for someone to handle our social media. International Almere has two Facebook groups, one Facebook page, a LinkedIn page, an Instagram account, a twitter account and is active on Discord. The main part of this voluntary job is posting things on these social media, such as news, events, information from our sponsors etcetera. We are currently creating a new website and need someone to keep that up to date too. Are you handy with social media and websites and would you like to help us, then please let us know.
