Classics Book Club

Classics Book Club is a space for literary enthusiasts to explore timeless works, share thoughts, and build community. Whether you’re a seasoned reader of classics or curious to dive into books that have shaped literature and culture, this club offers a warm and welcoming place to connect.

So, what makes a book a “classic”? While definitions vary, we focus on stories that:

  • Have stood the test of time
  • Show literary excellence and rich storytelling
  • Reflect or influence their cultural and historical context
  • Explore universal human themes
  • Inspire other writers and literary traditions

We meet once a month to discuss a selected book, with informal, thoughtful, and respectful conversations that bring new perspectives to old (and not-so-old) classics.

🗓️ How It Works

Each meeting is hosted by a member who chooses the book, ensures the venue (either at home or in a suitable public space), and gives a short introduction to start the conversation. Meetings last up to 2.5 hours, and planning for the next two sessions happens on the spot.

The club is limited to 9 members to keep it personal and engaging. Attendance isn’t mandatory, but we ask members to confirm in advance and allow up to four missed meetings per year.

We coordinate through a WhatsApp group, and share regular updates in the International Almere Community Facebook Group.

Interested in joining? While we’re currently full, open spots will be announced on the IA Facebook group and filled on a first come, first served basis.

To express interest, send a private message to Iwona Droog-Echt on Facebook.
