A place for internationals in Almere to get help, meet people, and feel part of the city.
Moving to Almere comes with a lot of firsts. New streets, new systems, new routines. For many internationals, the social side simply takes a bit longer to fall into place. We know, we’ve been there!
International Almere Community exists to make that part easier. We connect internationals and locals in Almere through relaxed events, shared knowledge, and everyday conversations that help the city feel familiar faster. From Dutch Conversation over a coffee, to a Friday Night beer in Bierfabriek.
There is no pressure to be outgoing and no expectation to stay all evening. Some people come once. Others come back. Both are fine. We’re here when you need us.
Life in Almere, beyond the basics
Almere is a practical city. It is very well planned, easy to navigate, and growing fast. Many internationals arrive here for work, study, or family and find that the logistics fall into place quickly. Housing, transport, routines. That part usually works. Grab your OV-Chip and you’re on your way. The bike lanes are some of the best in the country too!
The social side can take longer. Not because people are unfriendly, but because daily life often runs in parallel. Work, family, existing circles. Community does not always happen by accident.
International Almere Community exists in that gap. Not to fix anything, just to make it easier to meet people and feel part of what is already here. A ready made group of friends, who understand what you’re going through.
What we do
We bring internationals and locals in Almere together through events and activities that are easy to join and open by default. Some are social, some are practical, some are simply an excuse to get out and meet new faces.
Our focus is on:
– creating relaxed spaces where conversation can happen naturally
– sharing local knowledge that helps people settle in and navigate the city
– giving people opportunities to participate at their own pace
Everything we do is community-driven and volunteer-led. There is no membership requirement and no expectation to commit long-term. Some events have tickets, while others don’t, and we have a growing paid membership which is easy to join and helps keep everything we do low-cost.
Who this community is for
International Almere Community is for people living in Almere whose lives span more than one place. That includes internationals, expats, students, professionals, families, long-term residents, and newcomers.
You do not need to fit a specific profile to join. Locals who want to connect with the international side of the city are part of the community too. English is our main language, but many languages and backgrounds are represented. You might even say you’re more likely to meet someone who will broaden your horizons at our events than anywhere else.
If you live in Almere and are curious about meeting people outside your usual circles (or if you don’t have a circle yet), you belong here.
How to get involved
Most people start by coming to an event. You can arrive alone, bring a friend, or come along just to see what it is like. There is no sign-up pressure for most of our events and no expectation to participate beyond what feels comfortable.
If you would like to be more involved, there are opportunities to volunteer, help organise activities, or suggest ideas based on what you feel is missing in the city.
To get started, explore the events calendar or contact us at info@internationalalmere.com.
